Hello, I’m a playwright & theatre maker.
I develop and produce my own new writing in collaboration with other theatre artists. I’m regularly funded by local authorities, arts organisations and the Irish Arts Council and have been creating live performance since 1996. I also work to commission.
My writing explores different identities and points of view – some comic, others challenging, some personal and nostalgic. It often focuses on female identity, but I aim to reflect complexity in all my characters.
I write to understand different human experience and to communicate that to an audience. I write for theatre because live performance is for me the most immediate and most thrilling.
My shows have been described variously as… sensitive, nuanced and deeply attuned (Irish Times) …beautifully crafted (Sunday Independent) and experimental theatre at its best (Sunday Tribune).
I have also won awards for my plays including an Edinburgh Fringe First.
I started my career as an actor and a comedian, and although I’m more focused on writing these days I still love to perform. I’m a founder member and regular player with the Dublin Comedy Improv, and my show On A House Like A Fire is a personal piece about remembering my mother, in which I play myself and my mum.
As an independent theatre artist my aim is to create engaging and emotionally complex stories for live audiences. To do that I work with venues, festivals and other artists to create conversations and to challenge and develop my writing through collaboration and production.
I am always interested in new collaborations and new conversations.
